Tempra - Benefits, dosage and side effects

Tempra is useful for relieving fever, headache, toothache, pain, and fever after vaccination. This drug is available in two forms, namely drops and syrup.

Tempra contains the active ingredient paracetamol. It has antipyretic (relieves fever) and analgesic (pain relief) effects.

Tempra Products

Tempra has 3 types of products sold in Indonesia, namely:

  • Tempra Syrup

    Tempra Syrup contains 160 mg of paracetamol in every 5 ml. This product can be used by children aged 1-6 years.

  • Tempra Forte

    Tempra Forte contains 250 mg of paracetamol in every 5 ml. This syrup-shaped product can be used by children aged 6 years and over.

  • Tempra Drops (drops)

    Tempra Drops contain 80 mg of paracetamol in every 0.8 ml. This product can be used by children aged 0-1 years.

Warning Before Consuming Tempra

  • Do not use Tempra if you or your child has a history of allergies to paracetamol.
  • Do not use Tempra with food or drinks that contain alcohol as it can increase the risk of liver and kidney damage.
  • Do not take Tempra together with drugs containing paracetamol, to avoid overdose.
  • Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning a pregnancy.
  • Tell your doctor if you are taking any other medicines, including supplements, and herbal products.
  • Tell your doctor if you are taking anticoagulant medications, such as warfarin.
  • Tell your doctor if you have diabetes and phenylketonuria.
  • Immediately consult a doctor if you experience an overdose or an allergic reaction to the drug after taking Tempra.

Dosage and Instructions for Use Tempra

The following is the distribution of Tempra doses according to the child's age:

Tempra Syrup

  • Children under 2 years: The dose is determined by the doctor, according to the patient's condition.
  • Children 2-3 years old: 5 ml, every 4 hours.
  • Children aged 4-5 years: 7.5 ml, every 4 hours.
  • Children aged 6-8 years: 10 ml, every 4 hours.

Tempra Forte

  • Children 6-12 years: 5-10 ml, 3-4 times a day.
  • Children over 12 years old: 10-12.5 ml, every 3-4 hours or as directed by a doctor.

Tempra Drops (drops)

  • Children under 3 years: The dose is determined by the doctor according to the patient's condition.
  • Children 3-9 months: 0.8 ml, every 4 hours.
  • Children 10-24 months: 1.2 ml, every 4 hours.

How to Use Tempra Correctly

Make sure you use Tempra according to the dosage recommended by your doctor or the information listed on the medicine package. Do not increase the dose without consulting your doctor first.

For Tempra in syrup form, don't forget to shake the medicine before drinking. Use the special measuring spoon or cup included in the Tempra package for a more accurate dose.

If taking Tempra in the form of drops, fill the dropper up to the recommended line and drop it directly on the tongue.

Store the medicine at room temperature. Avoid direct sunlight and keep out of reach of children.

Interactions of Tempra with Other Drugs

When used with other medicines, the paracetamol content in Tempra can cause drug interactions, which include:

  • Increased risk of bleeding, if used concurrently with warfarin.
  • Decreased effect of paracetamol, when used with carbamazepine, phenobarbital, and phenytoin.
  • Increased risk of kidney damage, if used with isoniazid.

Tempra Side Effects and Hazards

Although it is rare that the paracetamol content in Tempra can cause some side effects, such as:

  • Bloody or black stools
  • Bloody or cloudy urine
  • Back pain
  • A sudden decrease in the frequency and amount of urine
  • Bruises
  • Unreasonable fatigue
  • Jaundice
  • No appetite

Immediately see a doctor if any of the symptoms mentioned above occur, or if you have an allergic reaction to the drug, such as an itchy rash on the skin, swelling of the lips and eyes, or difficulty breathing.
