A vaginal fistula is the formation of an abnormal passageway between the vagina and other internal organs, including the bladder, rectum or rectum, large intestine, small intestine, and urinary tract. Gas discharge from the vagina can be a symptom of a vaginal fistula, especially if the fart smells bad.

In addition, vaginal fistulas can also cause several other symptoms, such as:

  • There is stool in the urine or vagina.
  • Urine or vaginal discharge that smells bad.
  • Vaginal inflammation or urinary tract infection.
  • Fecal or urinary incontinence (difficulty holding a bowel or bladder).
  • Pain or discomfort in the vagina and rectum, as well as the surrounding area.
  • Pain during intercourse
  • Digestive disorders, including diarrhea, nausea, and abdominal pain.

5. Pelvic exam

Some women who have recently had a pelvic exam also complain of farting from the vagina. This happens because during a pelvic exam, the doctor will insert an instrument called a speculum into the vagina, causing air to enter and be trapped inside.

You can try doing Kegel exercises to help prevent vaginal farts. Kegel exercises are done by tightening the lower pelvic muscles.

If you experience vaginal farts when you are not having sex or undergoing certain activities, you should consult a gynecologist. Especially if this condition occurs frequently or is accompanied by symptoms of a vaginal fistula.
