Methylergometrine - Benefits, dosage and side effects

Methylergometrine is a drug to prevent and treat bleedingpostpartum (postpartum). This drug can also be used to treat bleeding after a miscarriage.

Dosage and Instructions for Use of Methylergometrine

The dose of methylergometrine will be adjusted according to the form of the drug and the patient's condition. The following are the dosages of methylergometrine for adults, grouped by form of the drug:

Tablet

The dose of methylergometrine to prevent postpartum bleeding is 0.2 mg, which can be given 3-4 times a day, for 2-7 days.

Injections through the muscle (IM/intramuscular)

The dose to prevent and treat postpartum bleeding or bleeding after miscarriage is 0.2 mg. The dose can be repeated every 2–4 hours, up to a maximum of 5 times.

Injection through a vein (IV/intravenous)

The dose to prevent and treat postpartum bleeding or bleeding after miscarriage is 0.2 mg given by slow injection. The dose can be repeated every 2–4 hours, up to a maximum of 5 times.

How to Use Methylergometrine Correctly

Follow the doctor's recommendations and read the instructions for use listed on the packaging before using methylergometrine. Methylergometrine injection type is only given by a doctor or medical officer under the supervision of a doctor.

  • Antidepressants, including nefazodone, fluoxetine, and fluvoxamine
