Bisolvon - Benefits, dosage and side effects

Bisolvon is useful for relieving the symptoms of coughing up phlegm that usually occurs during colds, flu, or respiratory tract disorders. This drug is available in tablet and syrup form.

Bisolvon contains the active ingredient bromhexine hydrochloride. This drug works by loosening phlegm in the respiratory tract (mucolytic) and helping to expel it.

Bisolvone Type and Content

There are 4 Bisolvon products available in Indonesia, namely:

  • Bisolvon Extra

    Bisolvon Extra contains 4 mg bromhexine and 100 mg guaiaphenesine per 5 ml. Bisolvon Extra is available in 2 syrup forms, 60 ml and 125 ml.

  • Bisolvon Kids

    Bisolvon Kids contains 4 mg of bromhexine per 5 ml. Bisolvon Kids is available in the form of a 60 ml pack of syrup. Bisolvon Kids is claimed to be low in sugar, making it suitable for children.

  • Bisolvon Solution

    Bisolvon Solution contains 2 mg bromhexine per ml. Bisolvon solution is available in the form of a syrup which is given by dripping. This product is claimed to be sugar free and should only be given to children aged 2-10 years.

  • Bisolvon Tablet

    Bisolvon Tablets contain 8 mg of bromhexine per tablet. Bisolvon tablets are available in strips of 4 and 10 tablets.

Warnings Before Taking Bisolvon:

  • Do not take Bisolvon if you are allergic to any of the ingredients in this medicine.
  • Be careful taking Bisolvon if you have a history of or are experiencing GERD, stomach ulcers, liver disorders, and kidney disorders.
  • Be careful taking Bisolvon if you have a weakened immune system, either due to a medical disorder such as HIV/AIDS, or due to certain medications, such as chemotherapy.
  • Consult the use of Bisolvon with your doctor if you are experiencing infections of the respiratory tract or disorders of the lungs, including COPD, bronchitis, emphysema, and severe asthma.
  • Consult your doctor if you are pregnant, breastfeeding or planning a pregnancy.
  • Consult the use of Bisolvon with your doctor if you are currently taking other medicines, including supplements and herbal products.
  • Choose Bisolvon without added sugar if you have diabetes or an intolerance to one type of sugar (sucrose, fructose, lactose).
  • If an allergic reaction to the drug or an overdose occurs after using Bisolvon, contact your doctor immediately.

Dosage and Rules for Use Bisolvon

Bisolvon dosage may vary, depending on the age of the patient or the type of product. The following is a general dosage of Bisolvon:

  • Adults and children over 12 years: 10 ml or 1 tablet, 3 times a day.
  • Children 6-12 years: 5 ml or tablet, 3 times a day.
  • Children 2-5 years: 2.5-5 ml or tablet, 2-3 times a day.

Especially for Bisolvon Solution, the drug dose is 2 ml (30 drops), 2-3 times a day.

How to Consume Bisolvones Correctly

Consumption of Bisolvon according to the instructions for use listed on the drug packaging or as recommended by a doctor. Bisolvon can be taken before or after meals. For Bisolvon tablets, drink water to help swallow the medicine.

For Bisolvon syrup, shake the bottle before consuming it. Use the spoon or dropper provided in the box to determine the dosage. Do not use a regular tablespoon or teaspoon as the dosage may vary.

Make sure that there is sufficient time between one dose and the next. In addition, try to always take the drug at the same time every day so that the benefits of Bisolvon are more optimal.

If you forget to take Bisolvon, take this drug as soon as you remember, if the interval with the next dose is not too close. If it is close, ignore it and do not double the dose.

Store Bisolvon at room temperature and in a closed container to avoid exposure to sunlight, and keep out of reach of children.

Bisolvon Interactions with Other Drugs

When used together, Bisolvon can increase the side effects of some types of antibiotic drugs, such as oxytetracycline, erythromycin, ampicillin, and amoxicillin.

Side Effects and Dangers of Bisolvon

The content of bromhexine in Bisolvon can cause a number of side effects, including:

  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Dizzy
  • Headache
  • Sweating
