Polysilane - Benefits, dosage and side effects

Polysilane is useful for treating heartburn and flatulence. This medicine can be taken by adults and children aged 6 years and over.

Polysilane contains mainly aluminum hydroxide and magnesium hydroxide. Both of these active ingredients work as antacids, which are to neutralize stomach acid.

In addition to containing antacids, Polysilane also contains simethicone or dimethylpolysiloxane ingredients which function to break down gas in the digestive tract, so that it can overcome flatulence.

1. Polysilane Chewable Tablets

Each Polysilane tablet contains 200 mg of aluminum hydroxide, 200 mg of magnesium hydroxide, and 80 mg of dimethicone.

2. Polysilane Caplet

Each Polysilane caplet contains 80 mg of dimethicone, 200 mg of aluminum hydroxide, and 200 mg of magnesium hydroxide.

3. Liquid Polysilane (Suspension)

Each 5 ml of liquid Polysilane contains 200 mg of aluminum hydroxide, 200 mg of magnesium hydroxide, and 40 mg of simethicone.

4. Polysilane Max

Contains 800 mg calcium carbonate, 165 mg magnesium hydroxide, and 10 mg famotidine.

5. Polysilane Junior

Each capsule contains 40 mg of dimethylpolysiloxane.

Adults and children >12 years: 1-2 tablets or caplets, 3-4 times a day.

Children 6-12 years: -1 tablet, 3-4 times a day.

  • Dosage of Liquid Polysilane (Suspension)

Adults and children >12 years: 5-10 ml or 1-2 teaspoons, 3-4 times a day.

Children 6-12 years: 2.5-5 ml or -1 teaspoon, 3-4 times a day

Using Polysilane Correctly

Make sure you take Polysilane according to the directions on the package or as recommended by your doctor. When taking Polysilane Chewable Tablets, you should chew the medicine until it is completely crushed before swallowing it with a glass of water.

Meanwhile, to take Polysilane Liquid or Suspension, shake the bottle before opening and use a measuring spoon to measure the dose.

Syrup medicine will work better if taken without other fluids, including water. This drug is usually taken 1-2 hours before or after meals, and at bedtime.

Polysilane is only consumed when needed, not for long-term consumption. If the symptoms have not subsided within 1-2 weeks, you should see a doctor.

Polysilane Interaction

Taking Polysilane along with cimetidine or tetracycline antibiotics can decrease the effectiveness of both drugs.

The combination of the ingredients contained in Polysilane, namely aluminum hydroxide, magnesium hydroxide, and simethicone, can also reduce the effectiveness of the following three drugs:

  • Quinolone antibiotics
  • Digoxin
  • Pazopanib

Polysilane Side Effects

It is important to take Polysilane according to the doctor's instructions, because Polysilane can cause side effects such as nausea, vomiting, constipation, or diarrhea.

Immediately see a doctor if side effects do not subside even after the drug has been stopped or if more serious side effects occur, such as:
