Diseases That Can Cause Lower Right Abdominal Pain

As previously stated, lower right abdominal pain can be caused by disorders of the organs located in the lower right part of the abdomen. The following are a number of diseases that can interfere with these organs and cause lower right abdominal pain:

1. Appendicitis

Abdominal pain due to appendicitisappendicitis) often begins with the appearance of pain around the navel, then moves to the lower right and persists in the area. Appendicitis can also be accompanied by other symptoms, such as fever, nausea, and vomiting. . These symptoms can appear in cases of mild or severe appendicitis.

This disease generally requires immediate appendectomy. If left unchecked, the inflamed appendix can rupture and its contents enter the abdominal cavity. As a result, peritonitis will occur which can be fatal.

2. Urinary tract infection

Urinary tract infections can occur along the urinary tract, from the kidneys, ureters, bladder, to the lower urinary tract (urethra). This condition is usually characterized by burning or painful urination, discharge of pus or odor in the urine, and frequent urination.

Usually, urinary tract infections are treated with antibiotics to kill the bacteria causing the infection. However, if the infection is triggered by a blockage in the urinary tract, the doctor may also recommend surgery or other measures to open the blockage.

3. Inflammatory bowel disease

Inflammation of the intestine (inflammatory bowel disease) is a disease that needs to be watched out for. This is because intestinal inflammation can increase the risk of colon cancer. This disease is characterized by abdominal pain accompanied by severe diarrhea, bloody stools, fever, and drastic weight loss.

Treatment of colitis is with lifestyle changes and medication. If this method doesn't work, your doctor may recommend surgery. The type of surgery performed depends on the type of intestinal inflammation experienced by the patient.

4. Urinary Stones

Urinary tract stones can form from mineral deposits in the kidneys (kidney stones). Pain is generally only felt when the stone is carried by urine into the urinary tract. This pain is felt from the back and side of the abdomen under the ribs, to the lower abdomen and groin.

Treatment of urinary tract stones depends on the size of the stone and its location. For small stones, treatment can be done with drugs and drinking lots of water so that the stones can be carried out with the urine.

As for large stones, the doctor may suggest surgery to remove the stones, or other measures to destroy the stones, so they can be expelled with urine.

5. Irritable bowel syndrome

Irritable bowel syndrome (irritable bowel syndrome) is a collection of symptoms that arise due to excessive bowel movements and disorders of the intestinal nerves. This condition is characterized by symptoms in the form of abdominal cramps, bloating, diarrhea or constipation, to the discharge of mucus during defecation.

Treatment of irritable bowel syndrome is usually with diet and medication.

Causes of Lower Right Abdominal Pain in Women

Especially in women, lower right abdominal pain can also be caused by the following conditions or diseases:

1. Menstrual cramps

In women, menstrual cramps (dysmenorrhea) can occur before or during the menstrual period. Cramps are most often felt in the lower abdomen, either on the right side or on the left side.

2. Endometriosis

Endometriosis occurs when the inner lining of the uterus called the endometrium forms outside the uterus. Endometriosis can cause symptoms in the form of pain during intercourse, during defecation or urination, and bleeding outside of menstrual periods.

3. Ovarian cyst

Ovarian cysts are fluid-filled sacs found inside the ovaries. Large cysts, especially if they rupture, can cause serious symptoms, such as severe pain in the lower abdomen.

4. Ectopic pregnancy

An ectopic pregnancy or pregnancy outside the uterus occurs when the fruit of the pregnancy implants in the fallopian tube. When the fruit of this pregnancy increases, the fallopian tubes can rupture and cause severe lower abdominal pain, bleeding from the genitals, to shock.

Ectopic pregnancy can be treated with drugs or surgery. However, if the fallopian tubes have ruptured and caused bleeding, the doctor will usually immediately recommend surgery, because this is an emergency condition.

Apart from some of the diseases above, right lower abdominal pain can also be caused by a buildup of feces in the large intestine and appendix.

If you feel pain in the lower right abdomen, you should immediately consult a doctor. The doctor will perform a physical examination by observing, palpating, or pressing your abdomen. If necessary, the doctor will also perform an ultrasound examination or other investigations to determine the cause.
