Lancid - Benefits, dosage and side effects

Lancid is a drug used to treat duodenal ulcers, minor gastric ulcers, and reflux esophagitis. Lancid is a prescription drug that is available in capsule form.

The active ingredient in Lancid 30 mg is lansoprazole. Lansoprazole belongs to the proton pump inhibitor class of drugs. This drug works by inhibiting a special enzyme found in the cells of the stomach wall to secrete stomach acid.

Lancid is available in capsule form which is packaged in a box. Each box contains 2 strips, each containing 10 Lancid capsules. One capsule of Lancid contains 30 mg of lansoprazole.

It is not known whether Lancid can be absorbed into breast milk or not. If you are breastfeeding, do not use this medicine without consulting your doctor first.

 Warning Before Consuming Lancid:

  • Do not use Lancid if you have a history of allergies to this drug, or to proton pump inhibitor class drugs
  • Tell your doctor if you have liver disease, autoimmune disease, osteoporosis, low bone mineral levels (osteopenia), hypomagnesemia, or low vitamin B12 levels.
  • Tell your doctor if you are taking certain medications, supplements, or herbal remedies before taking Lancid.
  • Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning a pregnancy before taking Lancid.
  • Call your doctor right away if you have an allergic reaction or overdose after taking Lancid.

Dosage and Rules for Use Lancid

Lancid is available as a delayed-release capsule. The dose will be adjusted according to the patient's condition. The following is an explanation of Lancid dosage:

Condition: Duodenal ulcers and reflux esophagitis

  • Mature: 30 mg once daily for 4 weeks

Condition: Minor stomach ulcer

  • Mature: 30 mg once daily for 8 weeks

How to Consume Lancid Correctly

Follow the doctor's advice in taking Lancid. Read the instructions for using the drug before using it. Do not change the dose or duration of use of the drug without consulting your doctor.

This medicine needs to be taken on an empty stomach. Therefore, it is recommended that you take Lancid before breakfast. If you are taking sucralfate, take it 30 minutes after taking Lancid.

If you forget to take Lancid, take the drug immediately if the break with the next consumption schedule is not too close. If it is close, ignore it and do not double the dose.

Store the medicine at room temperature away from moisture, heat, and direct sunlight. Make sure the medicine packaging is tight and keep it out of reach of children.

Lancid Interactions with Other Drugs

Lansoprazole content in Lancid can cause drug interactions if used with other drugs. The effects of drug interactions that can arise include:

  • Increased risk of bleeding, if used with warfarin
  • Increased blood levels of digoxin, methotrexate, and tacrolimus
  • Increased risk of developing hypomagnesaemia when used with diuretics
  • Increased blood levels of lansoprazole, when used with fluvoxamine
  • Decreased levels of theophylline and HIV protease inhibitor in blood
  • Decreased effectiveness of antacids, itraconazole, ketoconazole, or sucralfate
  • Decreased effectiveness of lansoprazole, when used with rifampicin

Lancid Side Effects and Dangers

Lancid usually does not cause side effects if taken as directed by a doctor. If side effects occur due to the use of Lancid, they are usually mild and will resolve on their own after treatment is completed.

The following are some of the side effects that can be caused by the lansoprazole content in Lancid:

  • Diarrhea
  • Headache
  • Stomach ache
  • Nauseous
  • Dizzy
  • Constipation or constipation
