Simple Tips for Healing Bumps on the Eyelids

Bumps on the eyelids can be experienced by anyone. Although some lumps in the eye are classified as harmless. However, you should know how to cure eyelid bumps properly, so as not to interfere with your vision and daily appearance.

In Indonesia, a lump on the eyelid is more commonly known as a stye (hordeolum). This condition usually occurs due to a bacterial infection that attacks the glands in the eye. Even though a lump on the eyelid can also be a chalazion, which is a cyst-like lump that occurs due to a buildup of fluid in the eyelid.

How to Cure Bumps on Eyelids

Here are the steps to cure lumps on the eyelids that you can do at home:

  • Clean the eye area

    Basically, lumps occur because of dirt or foreign objects stuck to the eyelids. So, clean the area around the eyelids. Take a cotton ball or clean cloth, then dip it in warm water and wipe it clean. You can do gentle massage movements while cleaning the area.

    Repeat this method at least 3-4 times a day. Make sure you wash your hands first and the cotton balls are clean. Do the same for lumps due to chalazion to prevent the buildup of dirt in the eye area.

  • Avoid squeezing lumps

    Refrain from squeezing the lump, let alone aiming to remove the fluid inside. This will only make the condition of the lump on the eyelid worse. In fact, it can make the infection worse and spread germs to the other eye. In addition, it can also cause permanent scars.

  • Use antibiotic ointment

    How to use it is very easy, you only need to apply a small amount of antibiotic ointment along the inside of the eyelid where there is a lump. Do the same for lumps caused by chalazion.

  • Compress with warm water

    Warm water will help soothe the eyes. Take a towel and dip it in warm water. Squeeze, then place the towel on the eyelid where there is a lump. Do it 3-4 times a day for 5 minutes. You can also compress using a tea bag that has been dipped in warm water instead of a towel.

You can try to treat bumps on the eyelids in the ways above. However, home care is only temporary as initial treatment. If the lump in the eyelid does not improve immediately, then you are advised to immediately consult an ophthalmologist so that appropriate treatment can be given.
