The health condition of the bride and groom is important before getting married. This is because after marriage, you will have sex regularly. In addition, your chances of getting pregnant are very high. By giving vaccines, you can be protected from several dangerous diseases.

5 Types of Vaccines Recommended Before Marriage

Here are 5 types of vaccines that can be given before you get married and have children:

1. DPT (diphtheria, pertussis, tetanus) and TT (tetanus toxoid)

The Indonesian government requires TT vaccination for prospective brides. However, if you have previously vaccinated DPT, you do not need to vaccinate TT again. This is because the DPT vaccine includes prevention of three diseases, namely diphtheria, pertussis, and tetanus.

Both of these vaccines can be given before marriage or to women who will and are pregnant. It is recommended to re-vaccinate (booster) DPT every 10 years.

2. HPV (human papillomavirus)

The HPV virus can cause a number of diseases, including cervical cancer. Transmission of this virus is through direct contact and sexual intercourse. Therefore, the HPV vaccine should ideally be given to women who have not had sex or before marriage. Giving the vaccine after someone is infected with the virus is considered less effective.

Men are also recommended to do this vaccination to prevent contracting the virus from their partners.

3. MMR (measles, mumps, rubella)

It is also recommended to get MMR vaccination before marriage, because it can help prevent measles, mumps, and rubella. This is important, especially for those of you who want to have children soon.

If one of these diseases occurs in pregnant women, miscarriage or the fetus can be born with defects. This vaccine is not recommended for pregnant women because it may be harmful to the fetus. So, the best time to get this vaccination is before planning a pregnancy. After being vaccinated, you and your partner also need to prevent pregnancy for 3 months.

4. Chickenpox (varicella)

Having chickenpox during pregnancy can increase the risk of the fetus having defects. Even so, chickenpox vaccination during pregnancy is not recommended. You are recommended to do this vaccination before marriage. This vaccine is also preferred if you are under 30 years old and have never had chickenpox.

If in doubt about the history of vaccinations that you have done, this smallpox vaccine can be given again.

5. Hepatitis B

The hepatitis B vaccine is included in the basic immunization of newborns up to the age of five. Even so, you are still advised to get hepatitis B vaccination before marriage as a prevention effort.

This vaccination is necessary because hepatitis B can be spread through sexual intercourse and the use of shared personal items, such as toothbrushes and razors. Not only that, hepatitis B can also be passed from mother to baby during childbirth.

Vaccination should be one of the wedding preparations carried out by the bride and groom. This vaccination can prevent diseases that may appear later in life. Consult a doctor to get checkups and vaccinations before marriage.
