Promag - Benefits, dosage and side effects

Promag is useful for treating stomach ulcers, acid reflux disease, and flatulence. This medicine sold freely. Promag It is available in the form of chewable tablets and liquid suspensions containing active ingredients which varies in each the kind.

The active ingredients contained in Promag are antacids, such as magnesium hydroxide, hydrotalcite, and calcium carbonate, which function to bind excess acid and neutralize stomach acid.

Promag also contains famotidine which works to reduce gastric acid production and simethicone works by reducing excess gas in the digestive tract.

Types and Content of Promag

There are 5 Promag products available in Indonesia, namely:

1. Promag Tablet

Each 1 box of Promag Tablet contains 3 blisters, 1 blister contains 12 chewable tablets. One tablet contains 200 mg hydrotalcite, 150 mg magnesium hydroxide, and 50 mg simethicone. 

2. Liquid Promag

Each 1 box of Promag Liquid contains 3 sachet, 1 sachet contains 7 ml. Within 1 sachet, contained 200 mg hydrotalcite, 150 mg magnesium hydroxide, and 50 mg simethicone.

Each 1 box of Gazero Herbal promag contains 6 sachet, 1 sachet contains 10 ml. In 1 sachet, it contains:

  • Red ginger (zingiber officinale rosch rhizome) 50 mg
  • Fennel (foeniculi fructus) 10 mg
  • Peppermint (menthae piperitae herbs) 12.5 mg
  • Licorice (licorice root) 300 mg
  • Turmeric (Curcuma domesticae) 50 mg
  • Pineapple root (ananas comosus stem) 50 mg
  • Royal jelly 10 mg
  • Honey 1 g

Promag for pregnant and lactating mothersCategory C: Animal studies have shown adverse effects on the fetus, but there are no controlled studies in pregnant women. The drug should only be used if the expected benefit outweighs the risk to the fetus.

The use of Promag Tablet, Promag Liquid, and Promag Fruity in nursing mothers is considered safe because the contents are not absorbed into breast milk.

However, the content of Promag Double Action can be absorbed into breast milk, so its use is not recommended for breastfeeding mothers. Consult a doctor before using this medicine while breastfeeding.

Warning Before Taking Promag

There are several things you should pay attention to before taking Promag, including:

  • Do not use Promag if you are allergic to the ingredients in it, such as hydrocalcite, magnesium hydroxide, simethicone, famotidine, and calcium carbonate.
  • Do not use Promag Gazero Herbal if you have breast cancer, uterine cancer, ovarian cancer, endometriosis, or uterine fibrosis. This is because the liquorice content in it can work like the hormone estrogen.
  • Do not drink alcohol while using Promag because it can make the condition worse.
  • Tell your doctor about any medications you are taking, including vitamins, supplements, and herbal remedies, such as calcium phosphate supplements, cefditoren, dasatinib, delavirdine, or fosamprenavir.
  • Tell your doctor your medical history, especially if you have ever been dehydrated, have phenylketonuria, diabetes, hypertension, kidney problems, heart problems, and hypokalemia, or have high levels of calcium or magnesium.
  • Consult your doctor if you are pregnant, breastfeeding or planning a pregnancy.
  • Consult a doctor first before giving Promag to children.
  • Immediately see a doctor if there is an allergic reaction to the drug or an overdose after taking Promag.

Dosage and Rules of Use Promag

The dosage of Promag may vary, depending on the age of the patient or the type of product. The following is a general dosage of Promag use:

Promag Tablet and Promag Fruity

  • Mature: 1-2 chewable tablets, 3-4 times a day.
  • Children 6–12 years: –1 chewable tablet, 3-4 times a day.

Liquid Promag

  • Mature: 1-2 sachets, 3-4 times a day.
  • Children 6–12 years: –1 sachet, 3-4 times a day

Promag Double Action

  • Adults and children >12 years old: 1 chewable tablet, 2 times a day. Maximum consumption is 2 tablets per day.

Promag Gazero Herbal

  • Mature: 1 sachet, 3 times a day

How to Take Promagcorrectly

Take Promag according to the doctor's recommendations or the instructions for use on the package. Promag in tablet form needs to be chewed, while Promag in liquid form needs to be shaken before use.

If you need to take other drugs, take them 1-4 hours after taking Promag. Promag Tablet and Promag Liquid are usually taken when symptoms occur, 1-2 hours before or after meals, or before bedtime.

Promag Fruity is consumed 1 hour before or 2 hours after eating, while Promag Gazero Herbal can be taken before and after meals, and can be drunk directly or put in warm water.

Meanwhile, Promag Double Action is consumed when symptoms occur or 1 hour before eating to prevent symptoms from developing. This medicine should not be taken with food.

Over-the-counter antacids and antiflatulents are generally taken for a maximum of 2 weeks. If your condition does not improve, consult a doctor immediately.

Store Promag at room temperature in a dry place, away from heat, humid conditions, and direct sunlight. Keep out of reach of children.

Promag Interactions with Other Drugs

The content of Promag can cause drug interactions if used with other drugs. The effects of these interactions include:

  • Decreased absorption of certain drugs, such as drugs, such as bisphosphonates, digoxin, estramustine, iron, pazopanib, strontium, tetracycline drugs, quinolones, or thyroid medications, such as levothyroxine
  • Increased chance of side effects when used with ceftriaxone or warfarin

Promag Side Effects and Dangers

Side effects that can be caused by the content of magnesium hydroxide, hydrotalcite, simethicone, calcium carbonate, and famotidine in Promag include:

  • Diarrhea or constipation
  • Nauseous
  • Headache or dizziness

Consult a doctor if the above side effects do not improve. See a doctor right away if you have an allergic reaction to the drug and rare serious side effects, such as black stools or vomit, arrhythmias, pain when urinating, and mental or mood changes.
