Diapet - Benefits, dosage and side effects

Diapet is an herbal product that is useful for treating diarrhea, reducing the frequency of bowel movements, compacting liquid stools, and relieving heartburn due to diarrhea. There are three types of Diapet products that are sold freely in the market, namely Diapet, Diapet Children, and Diapet NR.

Diapet contains guava leaves, turmeric, mojokeling fruit, and pomegranate skin. The combination of these four ingredients is believed to be able to overcome diarrhea. This drug is available in two forms, namely capsules and syrup.

Diapet Products

Diapet has three types of products sold in Indonesia, namely:

  • Diapet

    Diapet contains 240 mg of guava leaves, 204 mg of turmeric rhizome, 84 mg of mojokeling fruit, and 72 mg of pomegranate skin in each capsule.

  • Diapet children

    Children's diet contains 140 mg of guava leaves, 120 mg of turmeric rhizome, 50 mg of mojokeling fruit, and 40 mg of pomegranate skin in every 10 ml. This syrup-shaped product can be used by children aged 5 years and over.

  • Diapet NR

    In addition to containing 80 mg of guava leaves, 67.92 mg of turmeric rhizome, 27.92 mg of mojokeling fruit, and 24.16 mg of pomegranate skin, Diapet NR also contains 200 mg of attapulgite and 54.35 mg of activated carbon which can absorb toxins caused by bacterial infection or food poisoning.

It is not known whether Diapet is absorbed into breast milk or not. If you are breastfeeding, do not use this medicine without consulting your doctor first.

Warning Before Taking Diapet

Although sold freely, Diapet should not be consumed carelessly. The following are things you need to pay attention to before consuming Diapet:

  • Do not take Diapet if you are allergic to this drug.
  • Do not give Diapet to children less than 5 years old.
  • Consult your doctor first before taking Diapet if you have fever, abdominal pain, bloody stools, dehydration, intestinal obstruction, lactose intolerance, gallstones, blood clotting disorders, iron deficiency, liver disease, hypotension, diabetes or eczema.
  • Talk to your doctor about using Diapet if you are taking certain medications, supplements, or herbal products.
  • Talk to your doctor about using Diapet if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning a pregnancy.
  • Tell your doctor if you are planning any surgery, including dental surgery.
  • Immediately see a doctor if there is an allergic reaction to the drug or an overdose after taking Diapet.

Dosage and Rules for Use Diapet

Diapet dosage is determined based on the type and age of the user. Here is the explanation:

Diapet

  • Mature: 2 capsules, 2 times a day. To reduce the frequency of bowel movements due to acute diarrhea, you can take 2 capsules, 2 times a day.

Children's Diapet

  • Children aged 5 years: 10 ml is equivalent to 2 teaspoons or 1 sachet, 2 times a day.

Diapet NR

  • Adults and children 5 years of age: 2 capsules, 2 times a day. To reduce the frequency of bowel movements due to acute diarrhea, you can take 2 capsules, 2 times a day.

How to Consume Diapet Correctly

Take Diapet as recommended by the doctor and don't forget to read the information on the drug packaging. Do not increase or decrease the dose, and do not use the drug more than the recommended timeframe.

Diapet can be consumed before or after meals. Use a glass of water to swallow Diapet capsules whole. Do not crush, split, or chew the capsules, as this may increase side effects.

For Children's Diapet in syrup form, don't forget to shake the medicine before drinking. Use a spoon or a special measuring cup that is included in the package for Children's Diapet so that the dose is more accurate.

During diarrhea, it is important to prevent dehydration by drinking water or drinking adequate amounts of fluids. During diarrhea, avoid consuming foods and drinks that can worsen diarrhea, such as fried foods, foods that are too oily or fatty, spicy foods, cabbage, caffeinated drinks, including soda or coffee.

Diapet is only used to treat diarrhea that occurs in the short term. This drug also can not cure the disease that underlies the occurrence of diarrhea. Immediately consult a doctor if diarrhea does not subside or signs and symptoms of dehydration occur.

Store Diapet at room temperature and in a closed container to avoid exposure to sunlight. Keep this medicine out of reach of children.

Diapet Interactions with Other Drugs

It is not known for certain whether guava leaves, turmeric, mojokeling fruit, and pomegranate skin cause drug interactions when used with other drugs.

To prevent unwanted drug interactions, be sure to tell your doctor if you are or will be taking any other medications while taking Diapet.

Side Effects and Dangers of Diapet

The content of the active ingredients in Diapet is relatively safe and rarely causes side effects as long as it is consumed according to the rules of use. If side effects occur, they are usually mild, such as:

  • Dizzy
  • Nauseous
  • Stomach ache
  • Bloated
  • Constipation

Check with your doctor if the side effects mentioned above don't go away or get worse. Immediately see a doctor if you experience an allergic drug reaction which can be characterized by certain symptoms, such as an itchy skin rash, swelling of the lips and eyelids, or difficulty breathing.
