Mixalgin - Benefits, dosage and side effects

Mixalgin is useful for relieving mild to severe pain due to neuritis and neuralgia. In addition, Mixalgin can also treat headaches, influenza, backache, rheumatism, muscle and joint pain, as well as renal and biliary colic.

Mixalgin can be consumed by adults and children. However, this drug is classified as a hard drug so it must be consumed according to the doctor's advice.

Mixalgin consists of a number of active ingredients, namely metamizole sodium 500 mg, thiamine mononitrate 50 mg, vitamin B6 (pyridoxine HCl) 10 mg, vitamin B12 (cyanocobalamin) 10 mg, and caffeine 50 mg. This drug works by blocking the prostaglandins that cause pain and inflammation.

Warnings Before Taking Mixalgin:

  • Do not take Mixalgin if you are allergic to the active ingredients contained in this medicine.
  • Do not use Mixalgin together with other analgesic and antipyretic drugs.
  • Tell your doctor if you have or have had porphyria, hypotonia, kidney disorders, liver disorders, blood disorders (eg, aplastic anemia, agranulocytosis, and leukopenia), stomach ulcers, and duodenal ulcers.
  • Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning a pregnancy.
  • Tell your doctor if you are taking any other medicines, including herbal medicines and supplements.
  • It is recommended not to drive a vehicle or operate heavy machinery while taking this medicine.
  • Call your doctor immediately if you experience an allergic reaction to the drug or an overdose after taking Mixalgin.

Dosage and Rules for Use Mixalgin

Mixalgin serves to relieve pain due to neuritis (inflammation of nerve cells) and neuralgia (pain due to nerve disorders). The dose of this drug is determined based on the age of the patient.:

For adult patients, the dose is 1 caplet, 3 times a day. For pediatric patients, the doctor will adjust the dose based on the patient's condition.

How to Consume Mixalgin Correctly

Use Mixalgin according to the doctor's recommendations or the instructions for use listed on the drug packaging.

Take Mixalgin with or after meals. Do not increase or decrease the dose, and do not prolong the time of taking the drug or stop taking the drug suddenly.

Store Mixalgin at room temperature and keep it away from direct sunlight.

Mixalgin Interactions with Other Drugs

There are several drug interactions that can occur if Mixalgin is used together with other drugs, including:

  • Increased risk of thrombocytopenia, if used with anticoagulant drugs.
  • Increased risk of severe hypothermia when used with chlorpromazine.
  • Increased risk of drug side effects or poisoning, when used with trichloroacetic acid, birth control pills, allopurinol, and MAOIs (monoamine oxidase inhibitors).
  • Decreased effectiveness of Mixalgin, if taken with barbiturate drugs.
  • Increased risk of side effects of diabetes medications, sulfonamide antibiotics, and phenytoin.
  • Decreased effectiveness of ciclosporin.

Mixalgin Side Effects and Dangers

There are several side effects that can occur after using Mixalgin, including:

  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Dizzy
  • Headache
  • Diarrhea
  • Anemia
  • Low blood pressure (hypotension)
  • Decreased levels of white blood cells (leukopenia)
