Canesten - Benefits, dosage and side effects

Canesten is useful for overcoming fungal infections of the skin, such as tinea versicolor, ringworm or ringworm, water fleas, and vaginal yeast infections. This drug is available in the form of creams and vaginal tablets.  

Canesten contains the active ingredient clotrimazole. This drug works by inhibiting the growth of the fungus that causes the infection.

Precautions Before Using Canesten

Dosage and Rules of Use Canesten

  • Fungal infection of the skin

    Apply Canesten 2-3 times a day, for 2-4 weeks.

  • Vaginal candidiasis

    Take 1 tablet of Canesten vaginal 100 mg once daily, for 6 days. Or take 2 tablets of Canesten vaginal 100 mg once daily, for 3 days.

How to Use Canesten Correctly

Follow the doctor's instructions or the information listed on the package before using Canesten.

Make sure you use Canesten at the recommended dosage. Do not increase the dose without consulting your doctor.

Wash your hands before and after using Canesten. If using Canesten in the form of a vaginal tablet, wash your hands before and after inserting this medication into the vagina.

Before using Canesten cream, make sure the infected body part is dry. Apply enough Canesten cream on the problem area, 2-3 times a day.

It is recommended not to share the use of towels or clothes, so that the fungal infection does not spread to others.

Canesten in the form of vaginal tablets should not be used for other parts of the body. Use Canesten vaginal tablets at night, according to the directions on the package.

Canesten Interactions with Other Drugs

Canesten may increase the risk of fatal side effects when used with alfentanil, brexpiprazole, butorphanol, tacrolimus, leflunamide, lomitapide, mipomersen, amphotericin B, and nystatin.

Canesten Side Effects and Dangers

Canesten is a safe drug when used in accordance with the instructions for use. Even so, Canesten remains at risk of causing a number of side effects.

The side effects that can arise from the use of Canesten cream are:

  • Blisters appear on the skin.
  • Discomfort and pain in the skin.
  • Burning sensation on the skin.

While the use of Canesten vaginal tablets can cause side effects such as:

  • Burning, itching, or pain in the vagina and urethra (urinary tract).
  • Lower abdominal cramps.

Check with a doctor if you experience the above complaints. See your doctor immediately if you experience an allergic reaction to the drug, such as an itchy skin rash, swelling of the lips and eyes, or difficulty breathing, after using Canesten.
