Sumagesic - Benefits, dosage and side effects

Sumagesic is a pain reliever and fever reducer (analgesic-antipyretic). This drug is useful for treating various conditions, such as fever, headache, toothache, or joint pain. This medicine is only used to relieve complaints and symptoms and not to treat the underlying cause.

Sumagesic contains the active ingredient paracetamol. This drug works by blocking brain chemical signals that transmit pain and by affecting brain chemical signals that regulate body temperature.

Sumagesic is available in tablet form. One tablet contains 600 mg of paracetamol. Sumagesic is packaged in a strip of 4 tablets and a box containing 100 tablets.

 Warning Before Using Sumagesic:

  • Do not use Sumagesic if you have a history of allergy to paracetamol.
  • Tell your doctor if you have kidney or liver disease.
  • Tell your doctor if you drink frequently or have a history of alcohol abuse.
  • Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning a pregnancy.
  • Tell your doctor if you are taking any medications, vitamins, supplements, or herbal products.
  • See your doctor right away if you experience an allergic reaction to the drug or an overdose after using Sumagesic.

Dosage and Rules for Use Sumagesic

Sumagesic dosage will be adjusted according to age, namely:

  • Adults: 1 tablet, 3-4 times a day
  • Children –1/2 tablets, as much as 3-4 times a day

The dose prescribed by the doctor may change, depending on the patient's health condition, weight, illness, and other medications the patient is currently taking.

How to Consume Sumagesic Correctly

Read the instructions for use on the packaging before using Sumagesic or follow the doctor's instructions. Sumagesic can be taken before or after meals.

The maximum dose of paracetamol for one consumption is 1,000 mg. Do not take paracetamol at a dose of more than 4,000 mg a day. Taking more than the prescribed dose of paracetamol can increase your risk of an overdose of the drug.

Check with the doctor if the fever has lasted more than 3 days. To treat pain for adults, paracetamol is used for a maximum of 10 days, while for children, paracetamol is used for a maximum of 5 days, unless directed by a doctor.

Store Sumagesic in a closed place at room temperature and away from moisture, heat and direct sunlight. Keep this medicine out of reach of children.

Sumagesic Interactions with Other Drugs

If used with other drugs, the paracetamol content in Sumagesic can cause drug interactions, such as:

  • Increase busulfan levels in the blood
  • Reduces the effectiveness of paracetamol when used with rifampicin, phenytoin, phenobarbital, carbamazepine, colestyramine, or primidone
  • Increases blood levels of paracetamol when used with probenecid, isoniazid, metoclopramide, or domperidone
  • Increased risk of bleeding if used with warfarin

Sumagesic Side Effects and Dangers

The paracetamol content in Sumagesic rarely causes side effects. However, some people may experience the following side effects after taking drugs containing paracetamol:

  • Nauseous
  • Headache
  • Sore throat
  • Ulcer
  • Unusual bruising and bleeding
  • Bloody urine
  • bloody CHAPTER
  • Jaundice
  • Excessive weakness
  • Fever unrelated to previous illness
  • Back pain

Consult a doctor if you experience the above symptoms. You are also advised to consult a doctor immediately if you experience an allergic drug reaction or symptoms of a paracetamol overdose, such as:
