Recognizing female genital diseases and their symptoms

Female venereal disease can be caused by a variety of things, from infection to cancer. This condition needs to be watched out for because most female venereal diseases are asymptomatic, so they are often treated too late. If this is the case, female venereal disease can potentially cause complications.

Most women may have experienced vaginal discharge, itching, redness, or pain in the female area. These conditions can be a sign of early symptoms of female genital disease.

If you experience it, don't hesitate or hesitate to consult a doctor to undergo an examination and get the right treatment.

Some types of female genital disease and their symptoms

The following are some types of female venereal disease and the symptoms that can appear:

1. Sexually transmitted infections

Sexually transmitted infections that often attack women are gonorrhea, chlamydia, genital warts, herpes, syphilis, and trichomoniasis. A woman is at risk of contracting a sexually transmitted disease if she has more than one sexual partner, does not use a condom during sex, or shares the use of sex aids (sex toys) with other people.

Sexually transmitted diseases can be recognized by the following symptoms:

  • Pain or tenderness when urinating (anyang-anyangan).
  • Pain or discomfort during sexual intercourse.
  • There is blood in the urine.
  • Itching in the genital area.
  • Vaginal discharge that is yellowish, greenish, red or brownish and smells bad.
  • Sores or blisters appear around the vagina.

However, sexually transmitted diseases in women sometimes have no symptoms at all. Therefore, routine health checks need to be carried out as a form of early detection so that this disease can be treated early.

This examination is also important for women who have risk factors for sexually transmitted diseases, such as women who have sex with more than one partner and rarely use condoms during sex.

2. Vaginal yeast infection

In the female genital organs, there are fungi Candida albicans which grows naturally. However, if the amount is excessive, this fungus can cause infection. Yeast infection is one of the causes of inflammation of the vagina.

Fungal infections of the female genitalia cause symptoms of vaginal itching, pain when urinating and having sex, thick white or yellowish discharge from the vagina, as well as redness, swelling, and pain in the vagina and vulva.

3. Bartholin's cyst and bartholinitis

A Bartholin's cyst is a swelling of the Bartholin's glands, which are located near the vaginal opening. Bartholin's glands function to secrete the vaginal lubricating fluid during intercourse.

If the Bartholin's gland duct becomes blocked, vaginal fluid will build up and cause swelling. Bartholin's cyst is characterized by the appearance of a lump near the vaginal opening. Over time, this condition can lead to infection and inflammation of the Bartholin's glands (bartholinitis).

If it is infected and inflamed, this Bartholin's cyst can cause symptoms in the form of discomfort in the vagina when walking and sitting, pain during intercourse, discharge of pus from a lump in the vagina, and fever.

4. Vulvovaginitis

Vulvovaginitis is inflammation of the vagina and vulva. This female venereal disease is generally caused by bacterial and fungal infections in the vagina, allergies to condom lubricants or vaginal cleaning soaps, and decreased levels of the hormone estrogen in the body due to menopause or the use of contraceptives.

Symptoms of vulvovaginitis include pain or a burning sensation during urination and sex, a foul-smelling discharge from the vagina, and swelling and redness of the skin around the female genital area.

5. Cervicitis

Cervicitis is inflammation of the cervix or cervix. This condition is generally caused by a bacterial or viral infection, an allergic reaction to intrauterine devices, feminine hygiene products, or hormonal imbalances in the body.

Most women who suffer from cervicitis do not feel any symptoms. However, there are also those who experience symptoms in the form of vaginal discharge, pain when urinating and having sex, and bleeding from the vagina after sex.

6. Salpingitis

Salpingitis is inflammation of the fallopian tubes or tubes. Most cases of salpingitis are caused by bacterial infections due to risky sexual behavior. This inflammation can cause permanent damage to the fallopian tubes, which in turn can reduce a woman's fertility rate.

Salpingitis is sometimes asymptomatic. When they do occur, some of the symptoms may include:

  • Fever.
  • Dizzy.
  • Nausea and vomiting.
  • Frequent urination.
  • Abdominal or lower back pain.
  • Colored discharge from the vagina and smells.
  • Pain during menstruation or sex.

7. Cancer

Several types of cancer that often attack the female genital organs are cervical cancer, ovarian cancer, uterine cancer, vaginal cancer, and vulvar cancer.

Each type of cancer has different symptoms, but generally symptoms that appear include vaginal bleeding outside of menstruation, irregular menstruation, abdominal pain, and weight loss.

To prevent the various female venereal diseases above, you need to always practice safe sex by using condoms, not changing sexual partners, and getting the HPV vaccination.

For women who are over the age of 25 years or have been sexually active, it is also recommended to take additional preventive measures in the form of regular cervical examinations or Pap smears to the obstetrician.

This needs to be done because female venereal disease often does not show clear symptoms or new symptoms appear when the disease has progressed to become more severe.
