The Medical Facts Behind the Obstacle Phenomenon

The phenomenon of overlap is often associated with mystical things. In fact, this phenomenon can be explained medically and overcome with proper treatment.

Paralysis, or medically known as sleep paralysis, is a condition when a person is unable to speak or move when awakened from sleep or when going to sleep. This condition usually lasts from a few seconds to a few minutes.

Obesity can be experienced by anyone, from children to adults. However, this phenomenon is more risky for people who have certain conditions, such as insomnia, anxiety disorders, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

In addition, there are other factors that can increase a person's risk of experiencing obesity, including:

  • Age factor
  • heredity
  • Lack of sleep or irregular sleep patterns
  • Leg cramps at night
  • Drug abuse

Although rare, sleep paralysis can also be a symptom of narcolepsy, a sleep disorder that causes sufferers to have difficulty staying awake for more than 3-4 hours.

Types of Overlap and the Process of Its Occurrence

In general, the overlap can be divided into two types, namely: hypnopompic sleep paralysis and hypnagogic sleep paralysis. Here is the explanation:

Hypnopompic sleep paralysis

During sleep, the body will experience two phases, namely the NREM phase (non-rapid eye movement) and REM (rapid eye movement). The NREM phase is characterized when the body begins to feel more relaxed and the eyes begin to close. After that, this phase will switch to the REM phase.

When the REM phase begins, the eyes will move quickly and dreams will appear. All the muscles of the body are not active so they cannot be moved. Well, the phenomenon of overlap occurs when you wake up in this phase.

As a result, the brain is not ready to send wake signals so it is difficult to move the body, but you have your eyes open and awake.

When you are paralyzed, you will feel a pressure that makes it difficult for you to breathe. Not infrequently other sensations also appear, for example feeling that there is another figure nearby. This condition is a type of hallucination that often accompanies the phenomenon of paralysis.

Hypnagogic sleep paralysis

Different from hypnopompic sleep paralysis that occurs from the sleep phase to the waking phase, hypnagogic sleep paralysis occurs from the waking phase to the sleep phase.

At bedtime, the body will slowly lose consciousness. People who experience hypnagogic sleep paralysis as if still awake so that you can still feel things around you, but can't speak or move your body.

How to Prevent and Overcome Obesity

Everyone has the possibility of experiencing depression. There is no difference between men and women. There are people who experience paralysis 1-2 times in their lifetime, but there are also those who experience it several times a month or even more often.

However, there are a number of things you can do to prevent burnout, including:

  • Ensure adequate sleep time, which is about 6-8 hours every night
  • Creating a comfortable sleeping environment
  • Stop using gadgets at least 1 hour before bed
  • Get into the habit of going to bed and getting up at the same time regularly

Implementing a healthy lifestyle can also reduce the risk of sleep paralysis, such as exercising regularly, reducing the consumption of caffeine and alcoholic beverages, and stopping smoking.

Signs of Obesity to Watch Out for

Paralysis during sleep often goes away on its own and does not require special treatment. However, immediately consult a doctor if you experience the following:

  • Excessive anxiety or worry
  • The body feels weak and tired all day
  • Didn't sleep all night

Doctors will usually treat this condition with antidepressant drugs. However, the use of these drugs should only be done as directed and under the supervision of a doctor.

Well, now you know the medical explanation for the phenomenon of obesity. Far from mystical impression, right? So you don't have to be afraid.

Even so, if you continue to experience paralysis, it is becoming more frequent, and it is very disturbing, then consult a doctor so that the appropriate examination and treatment can be carried out.
